Date Tested: 05/10/00
Description of Samples:
Part Description: 0450-W-0 Plastic Folding Chair
Test Procedure:
Test Methods: Vertical Static Force to Seat
The chair shall be placed with all four legs on a stationary smooth steel platform. A block of wood 1 inch thick, 2 inch wide, and of a length equal to the width of the seat shall be placed transversely across the seat with the center point of the block on the geometric center of the seat. The side of the block in contact with the seat shall be shaped so that the top surface of the block is on a horizontal plane. A static force of 500 pounds shall be applied vertically to the center of the block.
Number of Samples: One (1)

Acceptance Criteria:
Upon completion of the test, there shall be no visible cracks or fractures of any metal (see SPECS below) portion of the chair. The permanent deflection or set, measured vertically from the floor to a point on the geometric center of the seat, shall not exceed 3/8 inch.
Results:
The submitted sample passed the test requirements. There was no functional or structural damage to the chair. The chair received 1/16 inch seat from the application of the 500 lb load.
FEDERAL SPECIFICATION AA-C-291F states testing procedures for metal folding chairs, as no tests exist for similar plastic folding chairs. Wood chairs testing requirements are too easily met.
